Sherlock Holmes has a female lilac point Siamese Cat as his partner on the trail of London’s criminals!
Dr Jean H Watson is made in a short pile lilac/mauve mohair and an ivory realistic pile English vintage faux fur.
She has armature in her body, arms, legs, tail and paws with a double neck joint so she can be positioned in many poses.
Her eyes are hand painted and inset with luxurious long eye lashes. She has hand sculpted nails which have been painted with a nail varnish to add to her femininity. Details have been created using hand painting, needle sculpting and needle felted paw pads finish her feline, appearance.
During my research I discovered that the Stethoscope was invented by a French man Réne Laënnec in 1816 and that the Doctors “white coat or laboratory coat” was adapted by the medical profession in the late 1880’s to change the patience’s perspective of doctors and relate them to the new scientific discoveries that were made in medicine in the laboratory. (Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote “A Study in Scarlet was written in 1887.) The white coat was to assure that the work the doctors under took was scientific and therefore clean and pure like the white coat itself.
With this fascinating research I decided to design a white lab coat for Dr Jean H Watson that feminine and included period details such as the puffed sleeves, the mandarin collar and the double breasted fastening. The coat has been tailored in a white heavy cotton fabric similar to fabrics used at that time and the buttons are antique and of the period.
Also I decided to name my Dc Watson Jean as the French spell John as Jean making an easy but informed choice for her name. I considered it fun to make Dc Jean H Watson a female and a Siamese cat in contrast to Sherlock Holmes and as Siamese Cat are know for their intelligence. My Dr Watson is a fame fatale!
